| The Sweetwater Lakes Project Protection of the lakes is already well underway. With the Ministry of Youth Affairs Conservation Corps youth training programme, we are planting native plants and trees and have fenced along the western sides of the Lakes Ngatu and Heather. Work is also in progress on a recreational walkway linking lakes Ngatu, Heather, Rotorua, Jewel and associated wetlands. |

| The Sweetwater
Lakes project is entirely managed and implemented
by local people all learning a wide range of
skills. The potential for employment providing
visitors with recreational and educational
activities is significant. The area could become
a unique outdoor classroom for the study of
wetland biology, as well as a great place for
family outings.
