The Council for International Development has links with similar organisations overseas, particularly with the Australian Council for Overseas Aid (ACFOA) and the International Council of Voluntary Agencies (ICVA).

Through membership of ANGOA, CID has links with the Pacific Islands Association of Non-Governmental Organisations (PIANGO) and the Commonwealth Foundation. CID is responsible for producing the New Zealand chapter in "The Reality of Aid", an annual international critique of Official Overseas Aid.
