*The listings are in approximate North to South order.

*We suggest that you use these lists as a starting point. Make your own investigations as well.

*Ask for written evidence that any imported timber is from a plantation.

*Be extremely wary if someone tells you that timber comes from a "sustainably managed" forest. It is highly unlikely that the forest is in fact being managed in an ecologically sustainable way - see page 4 of the 1992 Good Wood Guide, and point one in part two of the 1999 update.

*These are not comprehensive and exhaustive lists. They are what we have managed to gather over a few months in the latter part of 1998, through the efforts of a number of part-time unpaid people around the country. We are keen to hear of any other organisations and businesses that may be suitable for inclusion.

*Please let us know if any of the "rainforest friendly" businesses turn out not to be, and vice versa. We have done our best to double check survey results, but have not been able to in all cases.

These companies told us that less than ten percent of the timber they used was from natural old growth forests. They also seemed to be making some significantly positive effort to minimise this kind of timber use.
