Auckland Latin American Community Launching Salvador Allende Art Centre

The Auckland Latin American Community Inc (ALAC Inc) is organising the official launching in Auckland of the SALVADOR ALLENDE ART CENTRE.

The art centre, named after the president of Chile 1970-1973, honours both the aspirations of the poor in the third world and those of a man who   died defending democracy and social justice. It promotes new artists whose work fosters the principles of peace,justice and democracy.

The SALVADOR ALLENDE ART CENTRE will open with a photographic   exhibition of the life and struggle of the Chilean president including shots of his last moments during the bombing of the government palace in the bloody military coup in 1973.

For the opening of the Salvador Allende Art Centre we are very   priviledge to have the presence of Alejandro Fernandez Allende,  grandson of the murdered President who  will inagurate the centre. The official opening will take place on Saturday 4 September 1999, at 18.30 in theOnehunga Public Library, 87 Church Street Onehunga.
