Eco-nation occupy One Tree Hill

Sunday, September 12, 1999

A group calling itself Eco-nation says it is occupying land under the summit of One Tree Hill during APEC.

The Auckland occupation involves about two dozen people who are putting up tents and banners on the reserve, including representatives of the Wild Greens, Feminist Action and Maori Sovereignty groups.

Wild Greens spokesman Nandor Tanczos says their occupation will focus on having a free community, and looking at building a better future with strong environmental and social aims.

He says they intend to stay on One Tree Hill for the duration of APEC.
