Five on the foreshore

August 2003

The famous five went down to the shore
Helen and Richard and Billy and Winnie and Peter
"Oh look at the beautiful sand and sea!
It shouldn't be owned by anybody
Except pr'aps a white billionaire or three
But theirs are the bits that most people can't see"
Said Helen and Richard and Billy and Winnie and Peter

"There should be the same rights for everyone"
Said Helen and Richard and Billy and Winnie and Peter
"All should share in the sun and the foam
( though decent health care and a warm dry home
and wheels so the family can get to that beach
- may well be for some a few miles out of reach -)
them's the breaks", said Helen and Richard and Winnie and Billy and Peter

The famous five wrote a date in the sand
Did Helen and Richard and Billy and Winnie and Peter
"From October the third it will be too late
To let anyone have any further debate
about custom'ry rights, they'll just have to wait
for another hundred and fifty odd years
instead lets have ignorance, tension and fears"
said Helen and Richard and Billy and Winnie and Peter

The famous five went home from the shore
Helen and Richard and Winnie and Billy and Peter
"We've had such a great day but its time to get back
And keep everybody's wellbeing on track
Well, everybody but the poor or the black
So keep them divided while we count our whack
and pray that our nice little system don't crack"
said Helen and Richard and Billy and Winnie and Peter.
