West Papua Student Solidarity Pledge
4 December 2000
Following the agreement of the second National Congress of West Papua on May 29-June 4, 2000 that on the December 1 2000 West Papua will formally separate from the Republic of Indonesia;
And because December 1 has not brought this result;
And because the Presidium of the Congress no longer has the trust of the people:
The students, as the barometer of the West Papuan independence movement, have closed the campus of Cendrawasih University and pledge themselves:
- to support the independence aspirations of the West Papuan people on the national and international level;
- to accommodate and harmonize the aspirations of all West Papuans
- to collect all ideas from our people and from the Indonesian government that accord with Papuan aspirations
- to bring together with the West Papuan people all the leaders of educational institutions in West Papua to look for the best solution to our problems
- In sum, to gather all components of the West Papuan independence movement in order to find the best way forward to realize West Papuan aspirations for full independence
