THE SMELTER

- Greg Waite

with apologies to Simon & Garfunkel

I am just a poor boy
So, my story's seldom told
They have squandered my country
For a pocketful of mumbles
Such are promises
All lies and jest
Still, a rich man hears what he wants to hear
And disregards the rest
Mm-mm-mm-mm-mm-mm
Mm-mm-mm-mm-mm
In a clearing stands the smelter
Where the aluminium's made
And the company reminds us
Every year it cannot stay
So "Cut the price" they cry out
"You must" - but it's a game
"I am leaving, I am leaving"
But the smelter still remains
Lie-la-lie
Lie-la-lie-lie-lie-lie-lie
