2023 CAFCA ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING MINUTES

Held On September 26 At The WEA, Christchurch

PRESENT: Brian Turner, James Ayers, Colleen Hughes, Murray Horton, John & Katherine Peet, Warren Thomson, Honora Renwick, Frank King, Graham French

APOLOGIES: Paul Piesse, Terry Moon, Bill Rosenberg, Gilbert van Reenen, Denis O'Connor, Bruce Tulloch, Daniela Bagozzi, Diana Shand, Patricia Scott. MOTION (James Ayers/Katherine Peet) That the apologies be accepted. CARRIED.

MINUTES: The minutes of the 2022 AGM were read. MOTION (James Ayers/Brian Turner) That the minutes of the previous AGM are a true and accurate record. CARRIED

CAFCA ACCOUNTS: The CAFCA accounts for April 2022 - March 2023 were presented. Income was reasonably steady MOTION (James Ayers/Graham French) That the income and expenditure accounts be accepted CARRIED

CAFCA/ABC ORGANISER ACCOUNT: James Ayers presented the CAFCA/ABC Organiser accounts for April 2022 - March 2023. MOTION (James Ayers/Graham French) That the CAFCA/ABC Organiser accounts be accepted. CARRIED

ELECTION OF OFFICERS: James Ayers, Murray Horton, Paul Piesse, Terry Moon and Colleen Hughes were standing again. MOTION (Graham French/Brian Turner). That those Committee members who are standing again be elected to the Committee for the 2023/2024 year. CARRIED

ORGANISER'S REPORT: Murray Horton presented his annual report, which will be in the April 2024 Foreign Control Watchdog. MOTION (JAMES Ayers/Colleen Hughes) that the Organiser Report be accepted. CARRIED

GENERAL BUSINESS: Graham French offered his services to assist with re-writing CAFCA rules in line with new Incorporated Societies Act.

Katherine Peet thanked Murray and Committee for doing the research and publishing it.

Linda Hill's email read re an idea of a CAFCA scholarship offer to Leftwing Canterbury University student. General discussion about how to identify the right person at Uni. Other possibilities: Bronwyn Hayward, Nathaniel Herz-Edinger or employing a social media person for short term contract.

Perhaps CAFCA funds WEA structural analysis courses (run in the past), fund tutor to present courses. Young people active in climate change activists. Need to train young people to rethink the world

Perhaps recently retired people have the interest/time to get involved. Socialist Society may have suitable middle-aged candidates.
