Roger Award 2000

It's Tranz Rail Again. Tobacco TNC Runner Up

The Roger Award for the Worst Transnational Corporation operating in New Zealand in 2000 has been won (again) by Tranz Rail. The 1997 inaugural winner has featured in the runners up and/or the finalists every year since. The parent company is now Canadian-owned; the NZ company is selling up and slashing staff once again. The 2000 runner up is British American Tobacco (BAT), the biggest cigarette company in NZ. The Roger judges' report is enclosed with this issue as an insert (NB: Not in the on line edition. Check the relevant Webpages, or contact CAFCA. Ed.).
