~ SAT, 13 Nov - Pax Christi Annual Assembly - keynote speaker will be Cyril Hally SSC, whose topic will be related to what he calls "the global counterforce", an indigenous and community-based counter to the dominance of the global market. He tracks ways of operating at community level through communication networks and information-sharing at the grassroots level to preserve traditional human values and develop peaceful, cooperative relationships. ~ FRI, 12 Nov - ‘Shipleyville in the Square’ to highlight the unaffordability of good housing and the need to change this. Cardboard City setting up is from 4pm, off the Fitzherbert Ave end -tents, cardboard shelters, soup kitchens etc etc. You are invited to bring along your 'shelter' and join in. Banners etc to highlight related issues of lack of jobs, lack of access to health care, costs of user pays (education) etc, inadequate income support also welcomed. From about 6pm there will be a free soup kitchen meal, bring family and friends, contributions welcome. Speeches and music and performances throughout the evening. Also ACROSS is looking for collectors who can do an hour or two during the day (Friday 10am to 5pm, or Sat 10am to 2pm) for their annual street appeal. WEDS 17 Nov - Public meeting - 'Public faith in science and agriculture' Science and agriculture is increasingly dominated by big business, at the expense of the environment, animals, and our health.
