'Terror' raids: human rights in Aotearoa hui
Tapu Te Ranga Marae, in association with Peace Movement Aotearoa and several independent environmental activists, invites all those concerned about the recent 'terror' raids to a hui on human rights in Aotearoa at Tapu Te Ranga Marae, Island Bay, Wellington on the weekend of 3 and 4 November 2007.
A hui to identify common concerns and to develop positive relationships and strategies for dealing with the issues arising from recent events (see programme outline below).
"As people living in Aotearoa / New Zealand it is our responsibility to resist the injustices done by our government, in our names" [from the Not in Our Name Pledge of Resistance]
Childcare provided, bring sleeping bag and blanket, koha appreciated. Please advise us of any special dietary requirements
To help us prepare, if you are planning on coming to the hui, please RSVP by 1 Nov to Caroline Ward, email or tel 04 976 7080 / 0274 857 122
"First they came for the Communists, and I didn't speak up, because I wasn't a Communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak up, because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn't speak up, because I was a Protestant. Then they came for me, and by that time there was no one left to speak up for me." [Pastor Martin Niemoller]
This outline may be reviewed following feedback from those wishing to attend. At this stage we plan for a few individuals to briefly present relevant information in order to kick start each session, which will develop into open discussion. This will be followed by a general discussion. Each session will be supported by an informal 'chair' to ensure they run smoothly. If you have any comments please contact us asap, see contact details below.
Directions to Tapu Te Ranga Marae: Head south along Adelaide Road from the Basin Reserve to Island Bay, turn right at roundabout into Dee Street, follow road into Eden Street, take first right into Danube Street, follow left-hand gravel driveway at end of Danube Street (signposted) to car park. Gather at Marae for welcome at 9am.
Sorry about the short notice. This is the best we could do in a short time frame and we feel there is some urgency for concerned people to develop stronger relationships so we can deal with the issues now facing us.
Please feel free to forward this invitation to other concerned people.
If you have any comments or questions please contact Caroline Ward, email or tel 04 976 7080 / 0274 857 122.
