We Won't Be Getting Accounts Audited From Now On Bruce Finnerty, who died in June 2010 (see Murray Horton’s obituary of him elsewhere in this issue) was the honorary auditor of the annual accounts of both CAFCA and Foreign Control Watchdog from 1999 until 2010 (in 2009 he informed us that law changes meant that we could no longer refer to him as our auditor, so he was retitled the honorary reviewer of our accounts). After his death we soon discovered that those very same law changes meant finding a replacement was no easy matter. We consulted the rules of both incorporated societies (CAFCA and Foreign Control Watchdog) and confirmed that there is no requirement in the rules of either for audited accounts. We took professional advice and were told that as we pay for the books of both to be kept by a professional bookkeeper (that has been the situation since 2008, when Liz Griffiths, our long serving volunteer bookkeeper, resigned) and that our financial systems are thoroughly transparent and above board, we don’t need to have the accounts audited or reviewed. As required by law, the accounts will still go to the Annual General Meeting for approval, and will be filed with the Registrar of Incorporated Societies. They just won’t be audited or reviewed from now on, nor do they need to be. Non-Members:
