PRINCIPLES FOR
SUSTAINABLE BUILDING
A Countrywide At Home TV program on building greener homes made some interesting comments about basic principles for sustainable development: Principle 1: Make no undue impact on the environment. Principle 2: Use only sustainably manufactured or processed products. Principle 3: Be energy efficient. |
RAIA (Royal
Australian Institute of Architects) Environmental Policy
Looking through some back issues of Architecture Australia, specifically September / October 1994, I chanced upon an introduction to the RAIA Environmental Policy, which states;- Principle 1: Maintain and restore biodiversity. Principle 2: Minimise the consumption of resources. Principle 3: Minimise pollution of air, soil and water. Principle 4: Maintain health, safety and comfort of building users. Principle 5: Raise awareness of environmental issues. So come on New Zealand Architects: What about some strategic planning for the design of ecologically sound and healthy buildings? |
