A Living Wage For CAFCA/ABC Organiser

Dear Friends,

The CAFCA and ABC Committees have endorsed the Living Wage Campaign in principle and CAFCA will be taking a recommendation seeking endorsement to its Annual General Meeting in September (ABC doesn’t have an AGM).

A living wage has been defined as “the income necessary to provide workers and their families with the basic necessities of life” by Living Wage Aotearoa New Zealand and is set at $18.40 per hour. This figure has been established as a result of empirical research by Peter King and Charles Waldegrave.

Endorsing a campaign is, of course, the simple part - we also want to implement a living wage, and to that end we need your help.

Murray Horton, the CAFCA/ABC Organiser, is currently paid $17 an hour and, while we have been slowly increasing that amount over the last three years, we are approaching the limits of the current level of pledges and donations to the CAFCA/ABC Organiser Account. Regular readers of Watchdog, along with those who follow the work of the Campaign Against Foreign Control of Aotearoa and the Anti-Bases Campaign will be all too aware of Murray's role in, and his importance to, both our organisations - that he is worth more is self-evident.

Donations and pledges can be direct credited to the CAFCA/ABC Organiser Account at:

Westpac,

Sydenham Branch,

Christchurch.

Account number: 030866-0300063-00.

Yours gratefully,

Warren Brewer, CAFCA and Warren Thomson, ABC.
